Product Range
We hope this will help you plan your trip to our store. It will be updated on a regular(ish) basis, we promise. Stock levels do change regularly, therefore availability of products can not always be guaranteed.
Food deliveries to the store are every Wednesday, so we are usually well stocked up on a Thursday through to Sunday.
If you are travelling far, please call or text us first to check we have stock of a particular item to avoid disappointment.
Please note: we currently do not stock personal care liquids (shampoo, shower gels etc.) This is because we are unable to find a supplier that fits with our ethos completely (mainly taking the plastic containers back and refilling them, not just recycling them). So instead we offer shampoo bars, body butters, soap bars etc.

Pricing
We are often asked by customers how our pricing compares to the likes of Aldi, Lidl and other supermarket chains so we wanted to give you some insights into why it's hard to compare small independent shops to large retail stores.
Economies of Scale
This is the most important factor to take into consideration and a statement I'm sure you've heard before. Essentially this means the larger the business the better discounts they receive. Yes we buy in bulk (25kg) but that's a drop in the ocean compared to large supermarket chains. Click this link to find more useful information
Price Fluctuation
Prices of products and raw ingredients often fluctuate. During our first few months of trading, we decided to absorb the price increases and hoped that would even out if prices dropped. However, when prices dropped, we wanted to pass the savings on to the customers, leaving us a little worse for ware. So, as market prices rise and fall, so will ours. This is another thing to note when thinking about economies of scale, large companies are better suited to absorb price increases
Wastage
This is something that will affect all food businesses but it's still worth noting in the context of a zero waste shop. Due to the nature of a zero waste shop, there are often spillages, a customer may take too much product or in some instances take the wrong product and then don't want to buy it. Obviously we don't 'waste' any edible products (we eat them!) but we also can't put them back in the containers and therefore can't sell the product leading to 'wastage' in terms return on investment. One of the reasons supermarkets choose to package fruit and veg in plastic is to avoid wastage through spoiling, something we would obviously never do
Provenance
When looking through our product list, you will notice we tell you the country of origin. This is very important to us, but does have an impact on price. For example, our pumpkin seeds from Austria are over twice the price as pumpkin seeds from China. We currently stock a big variety of products from the UK such as quinoa, oats, flour, peas, beans, chia, linseed, pearl barley and puffed quinoa
Recycling
As a zero waste business, recycling is a core element of our business. You will be shocked to know how many shops and restaurants don't actually recycle. We were also shocked to learn that our council doesn't provide recycling for commercial businesses. I would love to know then what our business rates pay for, but that's a whole other discussion.
We have partnered with an amazing recycling company First Mile who can take almost anything; cardboard, paper, hard and soft plastics and even our food recycling. For other harder to recycle items we use Terracycle which has a big financial impact on the business.
London Rent/Rates/Salaries
When comparing our prices to other zero waste shops, this is a really important point to take into consideration but might not be such an obvious one. We won't be able to charge the same as someone who runs a small business out of a garage, is exempt from paying business rates or doesn't pay London living wage
VAT/Corporation Tax
This one I'm sure you are all aware of; the bigger and more successful the company the less Tax they seem to pay! Luckily we haven't made a profit yet so don't have to pay corporation tax but this is definitely something to bare in mind when comparing a small ethical business to a large company that has 'ways' of reducing their vat/tax bills
